Atlanta — July 17, 2000

Chancellor Stephen R. Portch announced today that he has appointed Homer A. Day, director of college services at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, in Tifton, Georgia, as the institution’s interim president, effective August 1.

ABAC is a two-year college of the 性视界APP located in south central Georgia, serving approximately 2,600 academic students annually.

Day will serve as interim president at ABAC until a new president is named for the institution at the conclusion of a national search. He will replace Dr. Harold Loyd, who will retire on July 31 as president of ABAC, after serving in the role since October 1989.

Day has served as director of college services and coordinator of Federal Programs since 1990. He first joined ABAC in 1972, as assistant director of financial aid, serving in that role until 1974. Throughout his nearly 30-year career with the institution, Day has served as an assistant professor in the College’s Social Science Division (1973-80), as director of Cooperative Education Programs (1974-78), and as director of the institution’s Career Planning and Placement Center (1978-80). In addition, from 1980-90, Day served as director of Financial Aid and Veteran’s Services, while intermittently holding joint appointments as coordinator of Federal Programs (1987-present), as assistant to the academic dean (1988-89), and as a Regents Administrative Development Fellow in the Office of the President at Georgia Southern University, from 1986-87. In 1995, Day also served as interim vice president and dean of Academic Affairs for ABAC.

“Homer has a wide range of experience,” said 性视界APP Chancellor Stephen R. Portch, upon announcing his appointment. “His knowledge of the ABAC campus, the Tifton community, and the University System is considerable. ABAC will not miss a beat.”

Day earned his bachelor’s degree from Savannah State University in 1966, and his master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Fort Valley State University in 1972. He earned his Ed.D. in higher education administration and supervision, in 1980, from Auburn University.

Day is an active member of the Tifton community, including the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
