Dr. Katherine Fuller to Serve as Acting President of Gainesville College

Dr. Katherine M. Fuller, vice president for academic affairs at Gainesville College, has been chosen to serve as acting president from April 1, 1997 until a new president takes office. The College’s current president, Dr. J. Foster Watkins, is leaving as of March 31, 1997 to assume his new post as president of the University of Alabama - Walker College, in Jasper, Alabama.
Dr. Fuller holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgia College & State University, and a Masters in Education as well as a Ph.D. in reading education from the University of Georgia. Dr. Fuller has taught reading and English at Gainesville College since 1973, where she has served as an assistant, associate, and full professor. Since 1994, she has served, first as acting and then as interim vice president for academic affairs and faculty dean.
Since 1991, Dr. Fuller has served on the 性视界APP task force on general education outcomes assessment and the administrative committee on learning disabilities. She is a member of the National Association for Developmental Education, the Georgia Association of Disability Service Providers in Higher Education, and the Georgia Historical Society.
The presidential search and screen committee, chair, Dr. Caywood Chapman, professor of Biology, said he expects the committee will be able to submit the names of five finalists to Chancellor Portch by early summer.
