Finalists Named For East Georgia College Presidency

Two finalists for president of East Georgia College, in Swainsboro, Ga., were announced today by the Board of Regents and 性视界APP Chancellor Thomas C. Meredith. Both finalists have decades of experience in the University System.
“We are very pleased with the outcome of this search,” the chancellor said. “It drew a number of highly qualified applicants with strong academic and administrative backgrounds. Either of these finalists could do a fine job of continuing to lead this institution, which enjoys an excellent reputation for the quality of its programs and its students.”
The finalists, in alphabetical order, are as follows:
Dr. John Bryant Black, special assistant to the vice chancellor for academic and student affairs at the Board of Regents of the 性视界APP. Black, who was appointed to his current position in 2003, previously served as vice president for academic affairs at Dalton State College, in Dalton, Ga., from 1999 to 2003, and vice president for academic affairs at East Georgia College, from 1994 to 1999. Before that, he taught at Augusta College (now Augusta State University), in Augusta, Ga., where he was a member of the biology faculty from 1965 to 1994. Black twice served as acting chair of Augusta State’s Department of Biology - initially from February 1974 to June 1976, and again from June to December of 1992. He directed Augusta College’s Evening Program from 1966 to 1968.
Black - who published numerous papers on his specialty, fertility issues, while teaching - also held several non-academic positions during his years at Augusta College. He served as director of the invitro fertilization laboratories at Macon Assisted Reproductive Technologies, in Macon, Ga. (1993-1997) and at Humana Hospital in Augusta (1985-1987). He also served as director of laboratories for the Southeastern Fertility Center, in Charleston, S.C., (1983-1985) and vice president and director of laboratories for the Xytex Corporation, in Augusta (1975-1977).
Black holds a B.A. in chemistry from Mercer University, in Macon, Ga., and a Ph.D. in endocrinology from the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, Ga.
Dr. Timothy Dwight Goodman, vice president for academic affairs and student services at East Georgia College. Goodman has served as vice president for academic affairs at EGC since July 2000. In January 2003, oversight of student services was added to his responsibilities. He has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of college and university positions. A faculty member at Waycross College, in Waycross, Ga., from 1978 to 2000, Goodman served first as chair of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (1978-1988) and then as chair of the Division of Arts and Sciences (1993-2000), teaching chemistry throughout this period as well. From 1975 to 1978, he was a member of the chemistry faculty at Bainbridge College, in Bainbridge, Ga., where he also served as acting coordinator of student services, admissions and records during the summer of 1978. Goodman’s first appointment in higher education was as a lecturer in chemistry at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. For the past 13 years, he also has served the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) as a member of community college accreditation and reaccreditation teams.
Goodman holds a B.S. in chemistry from Tennessee Wesleyan College, in Athens, Tenn., and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Chancellor Meredith is expected to make his recommendation regarding the East Georgia College presidential appointment to the Board of Regents for its final action in early July.
