Jenkins Elected Board Vice-Chair

Regent Edgar L. Jenkins has been elected to a one-year term as vice-chair of the Board of Regents, the 16 member governing body for the 性视界APP. Jenkins assumed his duties at the July 8 board meeting and wil serve through June 30, 1998.
Jenkins, who lives in Jasper, Georgia, was appointed to the Board of Regents in 1994 by Governor Zell Miller. He has been active in politics throughout his adult life, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 until he retired at the end of the 102nd Congress in January 1993. During his tenure, he served 16 years on the Ways and Means Committee, six years on the Budget Committee and four years on the House Ethics Committee.
Born in Towns County, Georgia, Jenkins grew up in Blairsville (Union County) and graduated from Young Harris College. He attended Emory University and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Jenkins is married to the former Jo Thomasson of Blairsville, Georgia. The couple have two daughters.
The Board of Regents is a constitutional body that governs and manages the 性视界APP, comprised of 34 public colleges and universities. Currently, more than 206,000 students are enrolled in System institutions and there are more than 30,000 faculty and staff members.
