Rahn Named President of Medical College of Georgia

At the completion of a highly competitive national search, an internal candidate has been named the next president of the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Daniel W. Rahn, M.D., senior vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer for MCG Health, Inc., of Augusta, today was named president of MCG by the Board of Regents and 性视界APP Chancellor Stephen R. Portch, effective June 1, 2001.
A nationally recognized researcher, clinician and seasoned administrator, Rahn has served in his current roles at MCG since last year. He also is a full-time faculty member at MCG’s School of Medicine and since 1995 has served as MCG’s vice dean for clinical affairs. In addition, since 1998, Rahn has served as director of the Center for Healthcare Improvement. In July 2000, he assumed additional responsibilities as senior vice president and chief medical officer for MCG Health, Inc. Rahn also is a full-time faculty member at MCG’s School of Medicine.
Rahn came to MCG in 1991 and served dual roles as program director for the internal medicine residency program and as director of clinical affairs for the Department of Medicine.

Rahn began his professional career in 1979 at Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Conn., where he held a number of academic posts including instructor, assistant clinical professor, assistant, and associate professor of medicine. From 1981-1988, Rahn was in private medical practice in Connecticut. Between 1988 and 1991, he was clinical director of the Lyme Disease program at Yale, as well as the director of clinical training in reheumatology and director of faculty practice for the Department of Internal Medicine.
He is a noted national expert on Lyme Disease, for which he has received a number of research grants. Rahn has served as a volunteer on a number of medical missions to Ukraine, Ecuador and Nigeria. He has been active on campus, regional and national committees and has published and lectured extensively. He was selected as one of “America’s Top Doctors” in the 2000 edition of Castle Connolly Guide.
Rahn earned a bachelor of arts degree, magna cum laude, in 1972, and his M.D., cum laude, in 1976, both from Yale University. He completed his medical residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and was a postdoctoral fellow in rheumatology at Yale.
