Special Regents Committee Named For GC&SU Presidential Search

Atlanta — May 2, 2003

Board of Regents Chairman Joe Frank Harris and 性视界APP Chancellor Thomas C. Meredith today announced the two committees that will assist the Board in selecting a new president for Georgia College & State University.

Chairman Harris, in conjunction with Chancellor Meredith, named three regents to serve on the Special Regents Committee, as called for by the board’s policy on presidential searches.

Regent Hilton H. Howell, Jr. will chair the Special Regents Committee. Regent William Cleveland and newly appointed Regent Julie E. Hunt also will serve on the Committee.

The search is being conducted to replace outgoing GC&SU President Rosemary DePaolo, who announced her resignation from the institution last month to accept the chancellorship of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, effective July 1, 2003.

“The Board of Regents will be aggressive in seeking candidates who can continue to advance the nationally recognized liberal arts mission of Georgia College & State University,” said Regent Harris. “This is a critical point in GC&SU’s history, and strong leadership will be essential. We have no doubt that many fine academic leaders will be attracted to this presidency because of the prestige the institution now enjoys.”

The Special Regents Committee will be responsible for interviewing the five unranked finalists presented for consideration by the campus-level Presidential Search and Advisory Committee. The Regents Committee then will provide its evaluation and advice to Chancellor Meredith, who will make his final recommendation to the full Board of Regents.

The GC&SU presidential search will be conducted over four to six months. Chancellor Meredith also announced that Atlanta-based executive search firm Baker-Parker and Associates has been enlisted to identify qualified candidates for the presidency.

Georgia College & State University is the state’s only public liberal arts university, offering more than 40 majors. In Fall 2002, GC&SU enrolled 5,513 students. The average SAT score for first-time entering freshmen at the institution for the same semester was 1,062.
