At Simon, we transform spaces with advanced lighting solutions. Our project in Asturias demonstrates Simon’s commitment to innovation, energy efficiency and preserving heritage.

In the heart of Asturias’ famed historical mining region lies the mining town of Bustiello, a jewel of Asturias’ industrial heritage. It has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest for its historical and architectural value.

Solutions implemented

The town council entrusted Simon with the task of updating all of the town’s lighting with LED technology to improve energy efficiency while preserving its historical aesthetic.

Our solutions are designed to promote safety, sustainability, and the functionality necessary for the movement of vehicles and people in urban centres.

Classic interior luminaires

For the town’s interior, we installed Simon PRAGA LED luminaires, crafted to blend harmoniously with the townscape while respecting its original architecture to create a welcoming and elegant ambiance.

These classic four-faceted luminaires are the ideal choice for replacing HID street luminaires. Their design features a slim, tapered housing with cladding and an advanced internal cooling system with fins.

Town entrance lighting

We selected the Simon NATH SXF LED luminaire, which significantly improved visibility and road safety. This high-performance luminaire stands out for its innovative design and advanced heat dissipation system, which ensures efficiency and durability.

Made of die-cast aluminium and equipped with an adjustable mounting system, the Simon NATH SXF LED adapts to any environment and offers multiple light distribution options to enable the execution of precise and highly efficient lighting projects.

Illumination of iconic buildings

To highlight the façade of a church, we installed size-S Simon FOGO LED floodlights, designed to illuminate efficiently and elegantly.

They’re made of die-cast aluminium and allow up to 14 multi-array optics in a range of different white light temperatures to be fitted. Simon FOGO LEDs adapt to any lighting project, always respecting the original aesthetics and architectural qualities. Their modular LED system also makes it possible to replace and upgrade lighting groups, extending service life by up to 100,000 hours.

Integral solutions

At Simon, we not only specialise in lighting, but also offer integral solutions such as charging stations for electric vehicles. For this project, we installed the Simon Neon charging station, designed to offer a robust and minimalist solution. Made of stainless steel, Simon Neon is ideal for outdoor use and offers protection against vandalism as well as the elements.

Simon is committed to ensuring that smart cities provide the essential service of charging stations for electric vehicles, thus improving the well-being of the citizenry, so they can live in a cleaner, healthier and more respectful environment. Our urban charging solutions for electric vehicles increase cities’ operational efficiency with energy control systems that adapt the stations to every need.

Interesting facts about the city

Bustiello, founded at the end of the 19th century by the Second Marquis of Comillas and designed by renowned architect Domènech i Montaner, is an outstanding example of industrial town planning. The need to group all the miners together in one area and ensure they had access to all the services they needed without having to travel was the reason for founding the town.

The town is structured into three levels: the lower level with accommodation for the miners, the middle level with houses for the engineers, such as the chalets Moreno and Don Isidro, and the upper level with the school, church and community social club. Access to the town is restricted by a bridge, and its original layout of perpendicular streets and green spaces, reflecting the separation between public and private areas, has been preserved.

A unique project

The unqueness of the town of Bustiello made this project a fascinating and rewarding challenge. We’re proud to have helped bring new life to this iconic place while respecting its personality and history.
